ORCA Opportunity: Middle School

As we continue to learn more about the Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19), the City of Seattle is taking steps to ensure that all Seattle residents are prepared and stay healthy. Following Governor Inslee’s emergency proclamation on March 12, all Seattle Public Schools will be closed through at least April 24. All school building activities including school day instruction, child care, preschool, athletics/sports, health services, enrichment, etc. are canceled until further notice. As a result, Seattle Public School cards will not be delivered to schools until Seattle Public Schools reopens. That means any middle school applications we received after March 9, 2020 and any new student ORCA cards (Middle School and High School) will not be delivered until Seattle Public Schools re-open. If you have any additional questions, please email or call/text 206-256-ORCA (6722). The City of Seattle ORCA Opportunity program distributes free, unlimited 12-month ORCA cards to income-qualified middle school students at Seattle Public Schools. Cards are valid on King County Metro, King County Water Taxi, Seattle Streetcar, Sound Transit, Community Transit, Pierce Transit, Kitsap Transit, Everett Transit, and Seattle Center Monorail.

How it works

ORCA Opportunity is available to qualifying students.

  • If you are a middle school student enrolled in Seattle Public Schools, you must be income-qualified and ineligible for transportation from Seattle Public Schools.

Students who were in the program last year do not need to complete a new application, unless you have transferred to a new school.

The City will verify that students are not eligible for transportation from Seattle Public Schools and then issue students new ORCA cards.

Students should pick up their cards in their attendance office or main office. If you did not participate last year, please submit the application posted.
